USA Next and Medical Alert Systems for Seniors

Most senior citizens and their families are aware of the leading organization for senior citizens. However, there is an alternative group for senior citizens called USA Next. USA Next is a self dubbed conservation alternative to the leading organization. USA Next was originally known as the United Seniors Association and is a lobbyist group for the United States who has a slogan known as “Building a Legacy of Freedom for America’s Families.” USA next is a 501(c)(4) organization that has been led by Charles Jarvis since 2001. Charles Jarvis was deputy under the secretary at the department of Interior during both the Reagan and Bush administrations. Charles Jarvis was also the executive vice president of Focus on the Family. Senior Citizens who belong to any senior organization should be aware of medical alert systems for seniors.

According to the website of USA NEXT, “USA United Generations and USA NEXT are grassroots projects of United Seniors Association (USA) which is celebrating its 13th anniversary as the non-partisan, 1.5 million-plus nationwide grassroots network Uniting the Generations for America’s Future.” Because it considers itself a conservative group, USA Next has received criticism from other groups. The criticism has been directed at its political views ,positions and issues. Of course, on the flipside, the leading senior citizen organization has been accused of being liberal and many who support USA Next view it as a better alternative to their views and values.

Looking at the history of USA Next you can find that in 2004 USA Next was one of the groups who supported President Bush and his administrations Social Security privatization plan. The New York Times listed USA NEXT as having twenty-eight million in annual revenues. USA NEXT according to their 2003 IRS numbers took in over twenty-six million in revenue in 2003.

No matter what senior organization you belong to or support, if you are a senior citizen you need to think about your personal safety and your piece of mind while leaving at home. Medical alert systems for seniors can save your life in the event of a medical emergency in and/or around the home. With a medical alert system for seniors, a senior citizen wears a lightweight necklace or wristband with a help button. In the event of an emergency, the senior citizen simply presses the help button.

When the help button is pressed the system connects to a twenty-four hour monitoring center. A trained operator will then come on the speaker box and be able to talk back and forth with the user. The user will then be able to tell the operator that it is not serious and they do not want emergency services called. They can have the operator call a family member, neighbor and/or friend. However if the user says it is more serious or is unable to speak, the operator will immediately dispatch emergency services to the location and call the emergency contacts. Using a medical alert system can be the difference between life and death during an emergency.
